City Kvart School

Organised around a central hall, the school brings together classrooms, a library, dining areas, and gathering spaces within a continuous social core shaped by natural light, movement, and informal interaction.

The design responds to Podgorica’s hot climate through carefully considered classroom orientation and passive environmental strategies, providing controlled daylight and effective shading throughout the day while accommodating the school’s dual-shift programme.

The landscape design extends this climate-responsive approach into the school grounds. Generous planting and a series of smaller, shaded gathering spaces help create a more comfortable microclimate, while transforming the schoolyard into a welcoming social space for children and the wider community beyond school hours.

The project was developed as a competition entry, with the design process encompassing the overall architectural concept, team coordination, task allocation, and programme management.
